About the Journal
Saastal is an international Open Access scientific journal, peer-reviewed through a double-blind peer review system. It is published by Editorial Unión Científica, a non-profit organization indexed in the DOAB (Directory of Open Access Books).
Mission and scope: The journal aims to disseminate original and unpublished research that explores the Life Sciences and their convergence with the Applied and Environmental Sciences. We publish works that integrate biological knowledge with technological solutions, sustainability, and environmental management, providing a forum for scientific advancement with social and ecological impact.
Publication model, funding, and article processing charges (APC):
Saastal is an open-access scientific journal funded and published entirely by Editorial Unión Científica, a nonprofit academic organization committed to the democratization of knowledge, high-quality research, and the dissemination of scientific literature.
The institution fully covers the operational costs associated with editorial management, technical support for the OJS platform, copyediting, typesetting (including XML-JATS, PDF, and HTML formats), and the assignment of digital object identifiers (DOIs). Therefore, the journal strictly adheres to the Diamond Open Access model.

We conclude our second year by focusing on the journal’s most critical intersection: human impact and bioengineering.
